* In Atlas Shrugged, producers are the people who create value through businesses, products, services, art, and invention. They are the protagonists of the novel and represent Ayn Rand’s vision of the human ideal. The producers’ conflict with looters and parasites is a central theme of the novel, and represents Rand’s belief in an eternal conflict in human life. In the novel, producers are vilified by politicians, social justice activists, intellectual critics, and even family members. These groups are supported and funded by the profits that producers earn. However, it’s actually the parasites who are the true “greedy” ones, seeking something for nothing.
